Proverbs 1 – How Do You See the World?
February 1, 2020Stay Close to God
February 3, 2020Did you know that road rage has nothing to do with having horrible driving skills? Angry drivers honk and speed because of a lack of virtue. They endanger themselves and others, not because they are in a hurry, but because they have moral issues. This may seem far fetched, yet our behaviour is usually rooted in our core values. Enter the book of Proverbs and it’s ancient words that are applicable today.
Proverbs is a great book to read because it deals with the issues of life that really matter. We learn about integrity and character. King Solomon doesn’t mix words. He hits home with in your face comments that bring conviction and clarity. This isn’t a collection of esoteric statements that mean little in today’s hectic world. Instead, Proverbs speak clearly about the responsibility of each person to choose life during daily situations.
This ability to choose goodness or foolishness is God’s greatest gift to mankind. With free choice we have the right to decide the fate of our own lives. It’s best we understood that we aren’t puppets being controlled by some “god” in the sky. We were given free will and the ability to set our own destiny. When we submit to the Almighty, then He will come near to us and help us along the way.
With God all things are possible but they are not automatic.
Proverbs 2:1-4 states that we must seek, search, call out, and crave for wisdom from God. Spiritual smarts just don’t fall from the sky! Verse 6 says that the Lord blesses our efforts and “gives wisdom.” You play a part and the Lord has a part.
As you commit time to read the Word and pray you will receive knowledge and understanding. Please notice that your responsibility is required first. Come near to God and He will come near to you. What will you do differently with this knowledge? Hopefully you’ll drive better and live better by taking a few minutes each day to seek the Lord.
Proverbs 2, “If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of the Lord. For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
