When Noah was inspired to build a big boat it started a chain of events that changed the world for the good. Later on Genesis another builder is mentioned who isn’t quite so noble.
Noach obeys the voice of the Almighty and brings glory to the name of the Lord through his obedience. Then Genesis tells the account of the evil Nimrod and the building of the tower of Babel. That’s when the people of the world constructed their tower to build a name to themselves.
The similarities in these stories are amazing. Noah acts in righteousness and builds a saving ark to honor God. Nimrod and the nations act in unrighteousness and build an upward city to establish their dominance in the world. The same Hebrew word is used in both verses for “built.” This is the Hebrew phrase “banah.”
From these stories we can learn the spiritual principle of building which states that you dwell in the house that you build. You live in the life that you have created. Your life will be made of the walls of thought that you construct.
Again, you live in whatever house you build. This is similar to the idea that “if you made your bed then you have to lay in it.” What you think upon equals what you become. The actions you take develop the life you create. If you want your life to be different then you must be different. If you dream of being a teacher, trooper, or tinker then it’s time to get busy! If you are happy with the status quo then keep doing what you are doing. If nothing changes then nothing changes. But if you change THEN everything changes!
Don’t allow the simplicity of this message to sway your thinking. We all have complaints about our situations, our spouses, and our siblings. Instead of dwelling on the problem – change that negative energy into positive thoughts and then BE the change you want to see in this world. Agree with Jesus and say, “not my will but thy will be done.” Let go of the situation that demands your attention and stop trying to fix your problems. Trust the Lord to use you for His glory. “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus,” Philippians 1:5-7.
Get a vision for your life and then take the necessary actions to accomplish your heart’s desire. Today is the first day of your new life. Build your own house and then dwell in it for the glory of God’s name.
