How to Stay Top of Mind
April 5, 2021A good or bad day?
April 14, 2021Jesus tells an amazing parable that leaves some action on our part. It’s a story about a fig tree and it’s a story that the Messiah started but didn’t end.
The tree wasn’t bearing fruit and the owner wanted it cut down. The man who tended the tree begged for more time for the tree, insisting that it could be cut down in a year if it wasn’t fruitful.
How does the story end? Did the tree bear fruit? Was the trunk rooted out? What does the parable mean to us today? Who / what is the fig tree?
Honestly, we don’t have the answers to most of these questions. It seems that we are to finish the parable ourselves through our invidividual lives. Maybe you and I are the fig trees and our time is short to bear fruit? What do you think?
Read this story and pray about this …
“Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’ “‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”
